Ysaura "Sally" Lopez Hanley, 77, passed away in her home on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, after a two-year fight with cancer. She was born Isaura Lopez Lopez in Beleigan, a small village in Galicia, Spain, to Julio Lopez Vazquez and Manuela Lopez Lopez. As a young woman, Sally moved to Barcelona, where she met and married American serviceman Robert Hanley, and moved to Montana, soon settling in Missoula.
Sally started her career working in a nursing home and became owner and administrator of Maplewood Manor Rest Home. When she was not working, she travelled extensively, seeing much of Montana and the world during her lifetime. She spent many summers at Flathead Lake and also enjoyed traveling and camping in her RV, and many outdoor activities with her family and friends. She enjoyed collecting figurines, especially owls and hummingbirds.
After her marriage of 32 years ended, Sally continued to travel and enjoyed the life of a snowbird, spending most of the year in Montana, and seeking the warm Arizona sun during the winter months with her longtime friend and companion Richard Reilly.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Julio and Manuela, and is survived in Spain by her sister Generosa, and her brothers, Benedicto and Julio; sisters-in-law, Fe and Victoria; nieces and nephews, Anamari, Juan Manuel, Jose Luis, Juan Carlos, Manolita, Marife and Isaura, as well as numerous cousins and extended family.
Spain and her family were always a very important part of her life and she visited them often. In Montana, Sally is survived by her daughter Manolita; son-in-law Christopher; partner and significant other Richard Reilly, his children Kyle and April and grandchildren. She is also survived by many good friends in Montana, Spain, Arizona and Canada.
Sally's struggle with cancer was made easier by the excellent care she received in Missoula, and special thanks are due to Dr. Sarah Scott and the folks at Montana Cancer Center, who went out of their way to take good care of Sally. Hospice of Missoula, though they only had a very short time to begin end of life care, were extremely helpful in Sally's time of need. Thanks to all Sally's friends, both in Missoula and Yuma, for making her last years easier.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Loyola Sacred Heart High School or Hospice of Missoula.
Funeral service, burial and reception will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7405 Mullan Rd.
