William David Thornby, 80, of Missoula, passed away of natural causes on Monday, Dec. 9, at Village Health Care Center.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1933 in Big Timber to William and Lillian Thornby.
Bill graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman in 1955 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served as an Engineer in the Navy stationed in Guam from 1956 to 1961.
On March 31, 1964 Bill married Dorothy Jane Williamson in Great Falls. They remained married until her passing in 1993. Their son Herbert William Thornby was born on December 22, 1965. Daughter Shelly Ann Thornby, was born May 2, 1972.
In 1996, Bill met Jennie Siloti and they remained partners for the rest of his days.
He is survived by Jennie, Herb, Shelly, and Shelly's two children, son Otto, age 14, and daughter, Elliott, age 11.
Bill was a loving father and a great dad and grandfather. He enjoyed traveling, sailing, golfing, snorkeling, skiing, and spending time with his second family at Lindbergh Lake (his favorite place).
There will be a memorial service for William on Saturday, January 4th at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Missoula.
