William T. "Bill" Stack
William T. "Bill" Stack, 71, of Missoula passed away Monday April 22, 2013 at his home of natural causes.
He was born June 29, 1941 in Butte Montana to Charles and Ione Stack. Bill grew up in Butte he was involved in football, basketball and track at Butte High and worked summers either roofing with his father or a ranch hand in the Wise River Valley. He spent time with his father and brother Charlie Stack building a cabin near Wise River, which was used for family gatherings, fishing and hunting.
While he was in high school, he excelled in football and was selected to be a member of the All-State AA Football Team as a quarterback. He also played in the 1959 East West Shrine Football Game.
He graduated from Butte High in 1959 and enrolled at University of Montana with a full ride football scholarship. Bill was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity at U of M and played football for the Grizzlies for four years before graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Education. Bill married Susan Mahrt in 1962. They moved to Whitehall Montana in 1963. Bill taught History at Whitehall High School. While there he coached football and officiated basketball in addition to teaching. Bill and Susan divorced in 1977. He later married Christy Hunt and they enjoyed several years together traveling and spending time with an extended family who truly loved and cared for "Uncle Bill". Bill retired from teaching in 1984 and pursued numerous hobbies and activities such as golf, wood working, hunting, gardening, and time with his family. In the last 20 years Bill's favorite activity was attending Grizzly Football games.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother. Survivors include his three beautiful sons their wives and children: Ray & Jeri Stack-Ronald, Jeramy, Chloe, Dawson, and Brinley. Rob & Malessa Stack-Kaela and August. Shane & Shanna Stack all of the Missoula area. Bill also leaves behind his former wives Susan and Christy and his sister-in-law Donna Stack as well as a large extended family that will miss his sense of humor and gregarious nature.
There will be no formal service at this time. However if you would like to make a remembrance to Bill you can send a donation to the Grizzly Scholarship Association.
Cremation is under the care of Garden City Funeral Home & Crematory
