William Earl Sandau

September 3, 1950 — November 11, 2021

William Earl Sandau, 71, of Missoula passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at St. Patrick Hospital of respiratory failure and Covid pneumonia.

Bill was born September 3, 1950 in Missoula to Rudolph and Fern Sandau. He grew up on Dixon Street with his brothers Mylo, Donny, Floyd and Lee. As a young boy, Bill was educated in Missoula Public Schools where he developed an interest in auto mechanics. This interest turned to passion as he became a mechanic at T & W Chevrolet and later a boat mechanic at Bretz RV & Marine. Bill went on to become a certified master technician for Bretz RV where he spent his last 33 years working for his second family.

In 1972, Bill married Debbie Thompson and adopted her son, Sean. He shared his love of hunting, fishing and everything outdoors with his son. In 1982, Bill and Debbie adopted their daughter, Vanessa.

In his grandparenting years, Bill found his greatest pleasures in hunting with his grandchildren. Most of his hunts were cut short so he could become a "pack mule" for his granddaughters, Mia, Corbyn and Rece. He loved every second of it!

The best father and grandfather, Bill also was a great friend and work colleague. He was always willing to help in any way and truly loved being with his friends at work everyday.

Survivors include his son, Sean and his wife, Carrie; daughter, Vanessa; brothers, Mylo and Lee; grandchildren, Mia, Corbyn, Rece and Grayson.

In lieu of service, Bill wished to be cremated and his ashes spread in his favorite hunting spots deep in Notellum Creek.
