William Arthur "Bill" Grubbs

August 22, 1938 — April 13, 2021

William “Bill” Arthur Grubbs was born August 22, 1938 to William Henry Grubbs and Cora Alma Dodd. He was joined by brothers, Henry Elmore and Carl Edward. His family grew to include step-father George LeRoy Bartlett then more siblings George Elton, Dennis Delos and Janette Lee.

Bill unexpectedly passed away August 13, 2021 following a massive heart attack at Community Medical Center in Missoula.

At the age of 14 he began his job at Liberty Bowling Alley as a pin setter and worked there until he enlisted in the Navy at age 17. He served in the Navy 6 years (2 in the Navy Reserves). He was very proud of his service as a hospital Corpsman. His siblings lovingly called him Dr. Bill as he was often “diagnosing” ailments.

Following his Navy service, he married and they had a son, Duke Arthur Grubbs. He later married Carol Lynn Zachariasen McCullum.

Bill loved sports cars all his life. He also enjoyed coin collecting and was always on the lookout for “missing” coin to add to his collection. He enjoyed snowmobiling. motorcycling, hunting, fishing, and camping. He and Carol enjoyed camping up Rock Creek and especially liked Missoula Lake.

From the early age of 14 Bill had a love for bowling and enjoyed it for most of his adult life. He retired from his job at Meadow Gold and continued his love of bowling by meeting at Westside Lanes with coworkers for breakfast on Wednesday mornings. The last breakfast he shared with them was the week he passed away. He is missed by all these friends.

Bill is survived by his siblings, Henry Grubbs (Kathleen) Bartlett, George (Connie Bowman) Bartlett, Dennis (Diane) Bartlett and Janette (Roger) Smith.

He was preceded in death by his son, Duke, his mother, farther, step-father, brother, Carl, and wife, Carol who passed way in May 2021.
