MISSOULA - William Ernest Farrington, age 76, of Missoula, died after a six-month battle with cancer at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009.
He was born April 15, 1932, in Nappanee, Ind., to Lloyd M. and Marie Krauter Farrington.
He married Susanne Fried April 12, 1970, on Long Island, N.Y. They resided in Sea Cliff, N.Y., several years and also had a residence in Hamilton, N.Y. For many years Will worked as a graphic artist in the New York City area and later was an art professor at the N.Y. Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, N.Y., teaching calligraphy and graphic design from 1965 until his retirement in 1998. He was a graduate of the Nappanee High School Class of 1950, a graduate of Ball State in Muncie, Ind., and received a master of fine arts degree from Cooper- Union in New York. He served with the U.S. Army stationed in Germany from 1956-1958.
He moved to Calgary, Canada, after retirement to pursue his love of hiking in the mountains, skiing, kayaking and jogging in that beautiful area.
He moved to Missoula, in 2007 to be nearer to medical care in the U.S. and was still exhibiting art projects there.
Surviving, besides his ex-wife Susanne, of Hamilton, N.Y., are a son, Adam (Amy) Farrington of New Orleans; a daughter, Berry (Peter) Farrington of Minneapolis; and a grandson, Walter Delong. He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret England-Neff of Nappanee, Ind., and JoAnn Priest of South Bend, Ind.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Missoula. Memorials may be made to the Missoula Public Library Foundation.
