Bill Applegate, 83, of Missoula passed away of natural causes (NOT COVID RELATED), Sunday, November 7th, 2021 in his home.
He was born on April 26th, 1938 in Butte, MT to James and Louise Applegate.
Bill had an extensive railroad career beginning with The Milwaukee Road in Deer Lodge, MT and retiring from Montana Rail Link in 1989. When he wasn’t at work, he was an avid outdoorsman and could be found fishing at Lake Mary Ronan or hunting with his sons, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren.
In his later years, Bill spent much of his time with the American Legion, in which he as Commander of Post 27 from 2011 to 2014, District 5 Commander from 2014 to 2016, and Department Fundraiser Chairman for 2 years.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Kenny Applegate and Baby Applegate, and 1 sister Darlene Wilson.
He is Survived by his sons Howard Applegate of Missoula and Ed Applegate of Turah; daughters Diana Jorgensen of Stevensville and Jane Windorski of Anaconda, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Phyllis Cowan and Jackie Freeze of Missoula, Kathy Majdic of Rock Springs, WY; brothers John Applegate of Lander, WY, Lanny Applegate of Cheyenne, WY and Ron Applegate of Reno, NV.
Services will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery on December 10th, 2021 at 2 PM with reception to follow at the American Legion Post on Ronan St.
