Wilbur Andrew Megaard, 81, passed away at his home in Missoula after a four-year battle with cancer.
Wilbur was born April 22, 1933, and was raised in the Belgrade/Bozeman area and attended school in Belgrade. At age 17, his parents signed his release to join the Navy. He served aboard the USS St. Paul during the Korean War. He was discharged with honor in 1954.
He married Norma Lee Gover on Dec. 28, 1952. They later divorced.
His lifelong career was driving truck, which he loved. He retired in September 2009.
He married his wife, Laura Fawn, on June 20, 1986, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one grandson, Jesse White Cotton; daughter, Marie Megaard; and brother-in-law, Bud Simpson.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Cindi (Megaard) White Cotton (Fred) and family; son, Allen Megaard and family; son, Steve Megaard (Cassie) and family; Gail Baker and family; sister, Randi Simpson and family; brother, Melvin A. Megaard (Mary Ann) and family; Fawn's two adult children, Billie Dimsha (Kent) and family and Grant Luark (Janie); 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Wilbur was a member of the VFW and the Elks.
Donations may be made in Wilbur's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital. At Wilbur's request, no services are planned at this time. Cremation has taken place and he has gone home.
