Obituary for Wayne E. Meyer

Wayne E Meyer, 83, of Missoula and Big Arm, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at St Patrick Hospital, of natural causes.
He was born November 23, 1931, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Edwin and Wilma Meyer.
His childhood was spent in Baldwin, running amuck. While attending high school he was a member of the football team and the track team, discovering his love for throwing the javelin. Shortly after high school he joined the US Navy, where he was an Aerographer and ping pong champion. He was honorably discharged four years later.
On September 8th, 1956 he married his sweetheart, Rosemary Wangler. The couple then moved to Missoula, where he attended the University of Montana Forestry School, and eventually hired on at the then Northern Pacific Railroad in 1957. They raised their two boys, Ed and Rod on Rollins St. Their place on Rollins quickly became a home as Wayne always had a project in the works, most significantly his backyard projects. Including a pool he dug himself by hand, a basketball court, covered patio and built in barbeque all while utilizing recycled materials he salvaged from the old Highlander Brewery. In 1985 the couple moved to the Flathead area. Eventually settling in Big Arm, he finished his last years with the railroad. During retirement he thoroughly enjoyed tinkering and maintaining their two acres on the lake.
He was a member of the Eagles Fraternity, the NW Accordion Association, and an avid participant in the Senior Olympics, acquiring four gold medals, one of them being in javelin.
He enjoyed music, dancing, traveling, golf, basketball, ping pong, throwing anything from rocks, softballs, discus, shot put and javelin and was known to run a pool table all while enjoying a beer or two. He and Rosie spent many of their years together two stepping and twirling to their favorite polka beat.
Survivors include his wife, Rosie, Missoula; two sons and their families, Ed Meyer, Kalispell, his daughter Jen Sheldon (Allan), their two daughters Addison and Riley, Missoula, and Rod Meyer, Missoula, his two sons Justin Meyer, Bozeman, Dylan, Missoula; two sisters, Joanne Bavendick (Frank), Bismarck, Leone Strandemo, Bismarck.
A service and celebration of life is planned for 2pm on Saturday, February 21st, at Garden City Funeral Home, 1705 W Broadway, Missoula. Memories and stories are encouraged. Reception immediately following service.
