Wayne J. Kost

Wayne J. Kost passed away Palm Sunday, March 20, 2016, of natural causes at the Village Health Care Center. He was born May 27, 1935, in Linton, North Dakota, to Emil and Martha (Kapp) Kost. The family moved to Missoula when Wayne was 8 years old. Wayne attended Whittier School and graduated from Missoula County High School in 1954. While in high school, Wayne was the manager of the Spartan football team.
Wayne served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 6 years (1958-1964). After returning from the Reserves, he was employed by Champion Paper Mill in Frenchtown for 5 years. After his years at Champion he went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad until his retirement at age 60.
Wayne's interests included being an MOA football official for high school games in the Livingston area where he lived for several years. Wayne was an avid Montana State Bobcat fan. He enjoyed jogging and running in races. Wayne especially enjoyed reading his Bible and sharing his faith with others.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Marcy and Bob Powell; and his sister Elaine Sandgren. Wayne is survived by his son Rod (Colleen) of Boise, ID; his daughter Rachelle Duren (Keith) of Klamath Falls, OR; three granddaughters, one grandson; and three great grandsons; his brother Donald Kost (Sherry); his sister, Carolyn Palmer (David); and his brother-in-law David Sandgren; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Good Friday, March 25, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. A dessert/coffee reception will immediately follow the service in the Community Room at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
