Virginia R. Buchli, 96, died of natural causes on Thursday, August 18, 2016, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, MT. Virginia was born on September 11, 1919, to Frederick and Olive Woolcott Williams in Winfred, SD, the youngest of seven children. As a youngster she moved with her family to the New Rockford, ND area. She graduated in 1938 from New Rockford Central High School. While in school she met and dated Martin Buchli, also from New Rockford. They were married on August 21, 1941. They began their family in New Rockford and later moved to Fargo, ND. After retirement, they spent summers at their lake home in Minnesota and winters in Sun Lakes, AZ. In 2008 they moved to Missoula, MT and to The Springs of Missoula in 2014.
Virginia was a member of the First Congregational Church in Fargo and was a founding member of the Sun Lakes Congregational Church, United Church of Christ. Throughout her life Virginia was an excellent bridge player and an avid golfer. She shot a hole-in-one in Sun Lakes at the age of 74 and was still playing bridge in the weeks prior to her death.
Survivors include her three children, Jerry (Vickie) of Devils Lake, ND; Jim (Jean) of Pensacola, FL; and Meredith (Dean) of Missoula. She is survived by five grandchildren, Scott (Marie), Chris (Kim), Jim (Denise), Jennifer (Anthony) Vareha, and Michael and by five great-grandchildren, Beau, Haley, Alexis, Christian and William. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin, her parents, sister Vera and brothers William, Alfred, Ernest, Clark and Norman.
A memorial service for Virginia will take place Sunday, September 4, 2016 at 1:30 at The Springs of Missoula. Memorials may be sent in Virginia’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
