– Our beloved and cherished Verlene "Dolly" Stewart, 74, of Frenchtown, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 10 2014.
Verlene was born Dec., 12, 1939, in Ceylon, Minnesota. She attended school in Estherville, Iowa, then moved to Montana. She married the love of her life James Donald Stewart in 1957 and later had two children, Jeff and Julie Stewart.
She was an accomplished woman of many talents. When she wasn't busy tending to one of her many businesses she owned and operated throughout the years, she spent her time being with her family and donating to charities.
As a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star she was such an active member that the third day of April every year is officially proclaimed "Dolly Stewart Day" in which she was declared the guardian angel of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and now truly is!
Some folks could only describe Dolly as "Large and in Charge," her knowledge of life in general could hardly be matched. One of Dolly's may talents was her ability to sing. Later in life her biggest hobbies were her grandkids, her gardening, and her dearest and closest friend Ronald Fritz (who drove her everywhere).
She is survived by siblings, brothers Vergil Hempstead and Velmer Hempstead; sister Vergene Hempstead-Munson; children, son Jeffery Scott Stewart and daughter Julie Lynn Stewart; grandchildren, Alyssa Schock, Jaci Augustin, Heather Kelly, Whitney Kelly, Michelle Kelly, Brock Stewart; great-grandchildren, Dillon Schock, Lola Schock, Chad Augustin Jr., Aaliyah Kelly
Viewing will be held Monday, June 16 from noon to 6 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home and Funeral Services at Garden City Funeral Home Tuesday, June 17 at 1 pm.
