Dr. Vasil P. Czorny of Missoula, Montana passed away on Wednesday July 8, 2015 at his home of natural causes.
He was born in Nova Benatky, Czechoslovakia on January 14, 1926 the oldest of four children. His younger sister Alena and younger brothers Zdenek and Miroslav preceded him in death. In 1946 Vasil escaped the communist rule in Czechoslovakia and made his way to Germany and continued his childhood desire to become a physician by attending medical school in Marburg, Germany. Here he met his life long love Kaethe Stöhr and they then married the weekend following his graduation from medical school on September 24, 1955. They immigrated to the United States later that same year. Vasil and Kaethe began their lives in St. Louis where Vasil completed his internship and they then moved to Salt Lake City where he successfully finished his residency in anesthesiology. In 1963 Vasil and Kaethe decided to make their permanent home in Missoula, Mt. Vasil often remarked that the mountains surrounding the Missoula valley reminded him of his home in Czechoslovakia. Dr. Czorny practiced anesthesiology beginning in 1963 at St. Patrick's hospital and truly loved working as a physician. He was elected president of the medical staff in 1974. Dr. Czorny also had an interest in acupuncture and practiced this form of eastern medicine with great success during his career as a physician. He retired from his medical practice in 1988.
Vasil and Kaethe were blessed with two children, a daughter Heidi and a son Andrew. Vasil is survived by Heidi Czorny Vestman and his grandson Kade Vestman of Missoula. He is also survived by Andrew Czorny and his daughter-in -law Lynn Czorny and grandchildren Alexis Czorny, Courtney Czorny, Victoria Czorny, Elizabeth Czorny, and Andrew Czorny Jr. all of Missoula. His wife Kaethe Czorny who passed in 1999 preceded Vasil in death.
A memorial service will be held at Garden City Funeral Home on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow. The family invites all those who knew Dr. Vasil Czorny to join in a celebration of his life.
The family asks that in place of flowers, donations be made in Dr. Czorny's name to St. Patrick Hospital and Health Foundation.
