– Valuent David "Dave" Thompson, 91, of Missoula, passed away Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, at St. Patrick Hospital. He was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Carson, Iowa, the son of Alvina Layman and David Thompson.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to his honorable discharge in 1946. He married Shirley Lundberg Sept. 27, 1947, and they were married 64 years until her passing.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and prospecting, four-wheeling, coffee with his buddies, pranks and telling jokes. He'll be remembered as giving, brave, caring, funny, devoted, respected and treasured.
He is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his son Dwayne and his five brothers, Jim, Nelson, Virgil, Bob and Albert and one sister Mary.
He is survived by his sisters, Ida and Ruth and daughters, Barbara Doty, Gale Shaffer (Jay) and Donno Ambo; grandchildren, Doug, Misty, Jason, Jeremy (Booklyn), Justin (Jessica), Jeff (Traci), Adryan, Aaron, Bethanni (Jared), Tarrah (Josh) and Sierrah; and his great-grandchildren Taylor, Maggie, Karter, Jasmine and Jensen.
Viewing will be at Garden City Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the Missoula Seventh Day Adventist Church at 800 South Ave. W. on Thursday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m. with burial with military honors at 1 p.m. at the Western Montana State Veteran Cemetery.
