Twila Berg, 61, of Missoula, passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2014. Twila was born Aug. 24, 1953, in Great Falls to Emmett and Shirley Tabor. Twila was a Great Falls native, graduating from Great Falls High School in 1971. After high school, Twila traveled extensively throughout Europe.
She worked as a florist and then as a secretary for Fish, Wildlife and Parks, where she met her future husband, Rodney Berg. Twila went on to earn her bachelor's and master's degrees in speech pathology from the University of Montana in 1987. On Sept. 4, 1987, Twila married Rodney K. Berg.
Twila was an active member of the Sons and Daughters of Montana Pioneers. She was the registrar and put countless hours into planning, organizing and making elaborate decorations for the group's yearly meetings. One of her greatest joys was working with her Aunt Elizabeth "Dollie" Kehmeier on the many projects of the Sons and Daughters'.
Early in her professional career, Twila worked for Missoula Community Medical Center, St. Patrick Hospital and Partners in Home Care as a speech pathologist. When her children entered school, she began working at Missoula County Public Schools so she could spend more time with her family. Over the years, Twila worked at a number of MCPS schools and was respected and adored by both staff and students.
Twila had many creative passions – scrapbooking, flower arranging, quilting, cooking, baking and cake decorating. She loved to do things for others. Family and friends always counted on Twila's talent to organize special events. Her unique touch made occasions personal and memorable.
As a thoughtful, loving mother, wife and friend, Twila always put others before herself.
She was a nurturing caretaker. She took great pride in "mothering" all her friends and family, who will deeply miss her love and support.
Twila was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Shirley Tabor. She is survived by her husband, Rodney; two children, Ethan (Caitlyn) Berg and Tessa Berg; aunt, Elizabeth "Dollie" Kehmeier; siblings, Tom (Sue) Tabor, Tracey (David) Helgeson and Tim Tabor; as well as countless friends whom Twila considered family.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Garden City Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the International Heart Institute of Montana or the Sons and Daughters of Montana Pioneers.
