Theresa Anne House, 54, of Missoula, passed away at home Tuesday June 5th, 2018 after a heroic battle with cancer.
She was born November 30th, 1963 in San Diego to Rosemarie and W. Michael Layman. Theresa lived with her family in El Cajon, California and was the oldest of 11 children. She graduated from Grossmont High School in 1982 and was a member of the varsity volleyball team. During high school, Theresa was a major contributing participant in her parish youth group at Holy Trinity Church in El Cajon.
On June 2nd, 1984, Theresa and David House made their wedding vows in the sacrament of matrimony at Holy Trinity Parish. She worked as a medical unit clerk at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, California from 1982 to 1989. Theresa then made the selfless decision to become a full time homemaker and mother in order to raise her four beautiful children over the next several years.
Theresa and her family moved to Missoula in 2006 where they purchased five residential rental properties. Her artistic talents, interior decorating skills, and uncanny knack for fixing up houses kept their desirable, gorgeous rentals always leased up.
In 2016, Theresa returned to the workforce outside of the home by obtaining a commercial driver’s license. Her glowing, joyful, and enthusiastic personality immediately landed her employment with the Missoula Urban Transportation District. For the past two years, Theresa served as a public transit professional bus operator for Mountain Line. She was extremely popular and well loved by both her co-workers and passengers alike.
Theresa was always active in her Catholic church and was a member of the Third Order Secular of Discalced Carmelites for more than 30 years. She also served as the Chaplin for the Las Colinas Women Detention Center for the Diocese of San Diego.
Her hobbies and interests included doing floral arrangements, gardening, cooking, collecting exquisite jewelry, and going to concerts of the Newsboys Christian rock band. She also enjoyed traveling around the world including religious pilgrimages throughout Europe and vacationing in Hawaii quite frequently. Theresa even served as a chief navigator of the family ski boat for many summers at Lake Mohave in Nevada.
Theresa was preceded in death by her sister Angela Frank, maternal grandparents, and paternal grandparents.
Survivors include her husband, Dave of Missoula; four children and their families, David (Ashley), Christopher, and Veronica all of Missoula and Patrick (Becky) of San Diego along with her beloved grandchildren Lily and Niko; her parents Rosemarie and W. Michael Layman of Redding, California; nine siblings, Rosemarie (Carlo) Dimesio, Marianna (Phillip) Rico, Michael (Sarah) Layman, Anthony (Iris) Layman, Matthew (Anna) Layman, Veronica Layman, Joseph Layman, Mary (Chris) Martin, and John Layman; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 3:00 to 4:00 pm at Garden City Funeral Home with Vigil/Rosary on Sunday at 7:00 pm at St. Anthony Church. Monday at 10:30 am Father Michael Drury and Father John Wang will be concelebrants for the funeral Mass at St. Anthony Church with a luncheon immediately following.
