– Theodore Rudolph Muller passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at St. Patrick Hospital. He was born March 1, 1927, to Helen and Rudolph Muller in St. Paul, Minnesota. As a child he loved reading with his mother and spending his summers at the family cabin in the North Woods of Minnesota. Ted served with the Merchant Marines during the Second World War and later as an officer with the Navy during the Korean War. He remained in the Naval Reserve until 1972.
Ted received his bachelor's degree in English from the University of Minnesota and his LLB from the William Mitchell College of Law, which led him to a career at Travelers Insurance both in Minnesota and Montana. Ted married his nursery-mate Patricia, and together they embarked upon 64 years of love, laughter and life together that grew a family of five children and three grandchildren. They traveled the U.S. and Europe together and shared a love of the mountains, spending nearly every anniversary at the place of their honeymoon, Glacier National Park.
Ted loved to read, hunt, fish and spend time outdoors, and found the joy in life's simple pleasures. He was a hard worker with a brilliant mind and greeted all he met with a twinkle in his eye, a smile on his lips and a poem or song (usually sung in German), the words memorized as a child but never forgotten. Ted was humble, generous and kind and lived for his family. His absence will be felt by all who knew him, our days just that little bit sadder without that sweet smile and German polka to greet us.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Helen (Vail) and Rudolph Muller; his aunt, Sister Mary Clement; and uncle, Bruce Vail. He is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Cindy Spangler, Connie (Jamie Sequino) Muller, Shari Muller-Ho (ManChung), Jeff (Kate Taylor) Muller and Heather (Graham) Allison; grandchildren, Nick Spangler, Trevor Muller-Hegel and Benjamin Allison; his sister, Helen Drachkovitch; and niece, Nicole Sault.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at St. Anthony Church with Father Reller presiding and a reception to follow. Donations may be made to the American Red Cross and Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
