Theodore Marchie

Theodore A. Marchie, age 92, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017 in Missoula, Montana. Ted was born September 9, 1924 in Oak Park, Illinois to Joseph and Hilda Marchie. Upon graduation from high school, he entered the military serving in the Pacific Campaign with an honorable discharge in 1946. Ted married Vivian Tang on October 3, 1948 in Illinois and they moved to Montana so he could attend college. He graduated from the University of Montana with a bachelor’s degree in 1950. Ted started the Montana Tree & Landscape Service and Marchie’s Nursery in 1951. They had four children: Beverly Gutman, Kathleen Lockridge, Richard Marchie, and Wayne Marchie. Eventually Ted sold a business in Butte to his son, Wayne, and the one in Missoula to his daughter, Beverly. Upon his retirement, Ted resided in Yuma, Arizona during the winter months. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and traveling. Ted was preceded in death by his wife Vivian and son Richard. Survivors include Beverly (Bill) Gutman, Kathleen (Mel) Lockridge, Wayne (Karen) Marchie; grandchildren Tracie Pierce, Hollie Gutman-Stacey, Will Gutman, Christopher Lockridge, Nick Lockridge; great-grandchildren Lillie Gutman, Robert Gutman, and Sage Marchie. A private family memorial service will take place at a later date.
