Obituary for Thelma K.Heuer York

Our beautiful, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Thelma York (Grandma T to many) went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 16th 2014.

Thelma was born "Thelma Dorothy Marie Krueger" on January 28, 1921 in Gaylord, Minnesota to Paul & Louisa Krueger. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's American Lutheran Church in Gaylord, Minnesota. She graduated from Gaylord High School in 1938. On October 6, 1943 she was married to Glenn Heuer in San Antonio, Texas where Glenn was in the U.S. Army. Glenn & Thelma resided in San Antonio until December 1946 when they moved back to Gaylord. In 1951 they moved to Lake Wilson, Minnesota where they lived for many years as pillars of the community making many friends along the way. Glenn and Thelma had three children Glenn Jr, Chan and Kara Sue. Thelma was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Club in Lake Wilson and was an active member of the Lutheran Church and a highly respected member of the community known for her generosity, kindness and caring for all. Following Glenn Sr's death in 1966, Thelma remained in Lake Wilson where she became the President of the family owned, First National Bank.

On May 30, 1970, Thelma married Rex York in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived in Arvada, Colorado until August 1979 when they retired to Flathead Lake at Big Arm, Montana. Rex and Thelma enjoyed their time at the lake together especially when family would all gather there during the summer. Rex died March 8, 1985 and in September Thelma moved to Missoula, Montana to be closer to her family.

Thelma found her greatest joy in her family. She loved us all dearly and enjoyed retelling her favorite stories of each of us to anyone who would listen. She loved to bake and always had lots of treats on hand for her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards and games with all of the kids and would often let us win to spare any hurt feelings. She was a devout Christian. She read her bible often and her faithful prayers were a comfort to us all.

Thelma touched the lives of many people throughout the years and she made lifelong friends everywhere she went. In her later years Thelma especially cherished her friendships with Ann Helmke, Kay Bennett, who went out of her way to call or stop by and visit almost daily and Gloria Roark and Margaret Thompson who so often remembered her with cards, calls, visits and prayers.

Thelma was a gentle, loving person who will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Thelma is survived by 3 children and their spouses; Glenn & Carol Heuer of Missoula, MT, Chan & Sharon Heuer of Arvada, CO and Kara & Arthur Olivier of Dillon, MT; one step-daughter & husband, Patsy & John Palizzi of Arvada, CO; 8 grand-children Brian & Beth Heuer; Brooke & Bob Worthen; Jared Heuer; Joy Heuer; Nicole & Scott Andersen; Charise & Greg Lemelin; Brandon Olivier and Luann & Tim Foos. She is also survived by 11 great grand children: Cali and Codi Heuer; Colton, Cayla and Cortnie Coty; Holly and Troy Andersen; Carsten, Abigail and Gabe Lemelin and Jesse Green. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents Paul & Louisa, both husbands Glenn and Rex, her brother Elmer, her sister Dorothy and one grandson Johnny Palizzi.

The family would also like to thank the staff of the Bee Hive Retirement Community and especially Mary, Kim, Linda, Bonnie and Jeff for their loving care and friendship of our T.
