- Friday evening, February 7, 2014, Steve L. McAdam, 66, left the loving embrace of his wife of forty
years to be in the arms of Jesus.
He was born March 12, 1947 in Cut Bank, MT to Lloyd McAdam and Alfreda Cleland McAdam and joined his half-brother Larry Nordstrom. Since his father worked in the oilfield, he moved frequently and lived and attended schools in various locations in Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. He attended high school in Conrad, Montana. Steve served his country by joining the Navy and spent four years on various ships and submarines off the coast of Vietnam and the Pacific.
He returned to the Cut Bank/Conrad area and followed his father's career in the oilfield for a while. He visited Clinton, Montana with a friend where he met the love of his life and soul mate, Connie Morkert, in March of 1973. They were married in May 2 1/2 months later. They moved to Craig, Colorado where they lived for three years.
The lure of Montana called them back in 1976. Steve tried his hand at selling life insurance, truck driving, and more oil field work, eventually going to work for the Montana Department of Transportation. He retired from the State in 2004 after 26 years.
He was known by his family and friends as a history buff and an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed watching football, but favored no particular team. He was also remembered for his devotion to his God, his family and his country. He had a special place in his heart for animals and always owned several.
One of his favorite sayings was, "I'd rather be a half an hour early than a minute late", which made for an interesting challenge when trying to get an exceptionally large family on the move. His Scots/Irish heritage often
raised its head when his stubborn streak took hold. He was passionate about what he believed and loyal to those dear to his heart. He inspired his children to share his indomitable pioneer spirit and work ethic. Another favorite quote of his was, "If it is worth doing, it is worth doing to the best of your ability."
Steve could find humor in everything and could laugh at himself. His children can recall many memories of his fondness for cutting fruit with inappropriate implements, such as an apple with a chainsaw and a watermelon with a sword, just to name a couple. He passed his wit and ability to find joy in even the little things on to those he touched.
Having not grown up with any permanence, he desired a place his kids could always call home. He and Connie
lived in one home in Clinton for the past 32 years, where their kids and their kids' friends have always been welcome even after leaving the nest.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter Kaycee. He is survived by his wife Connie; brother Larry Nordstrom of Post Falls, ID; children Denny, Steven, Eric, and Cheri McAdam of Missoula, Amber and son-in- law Neal Knight of Portland, OR, Teal Hansen of Orlando, FL, and Trina McAdam ofButte; special former foster children, Eli Dubois of Missoula and Michelle Leigland of Great Falls; grandchildren Alexis, Brandon, Jedi, and Oskar
Knight of Portland, OR, Zoe and soon to be born baby boy McAdam of Missoula and Dustyn, Tyler and Elayna
Hansen of the Family Home.
Steve's passion for many years has been seeing the Clinton Community Church in its own home. Although the sanctuary is not quite finished, Steve will have the honor of having the first service performed there. He didn't want a funeral, so a Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 1pm officiated by his dear friend and Pastor Rick Robinson. A reception will be provided after.
