Stephen Arthur Bowen, 76, of Missoula, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024, at St. Patrick Hospital of natural causes.
Steve was born on February 27, 1947, in San Diego. While working in San Diego, he met his wife, Dianna Lynn Danks. They married on 6-22-69 and moved to Missoula in 1972. Steve & Dianna purchased land in Potomac and built a log house, learning as they went from books and friends.
Steve worked at a local mill for many years before receiving an injury. Afterwards, he decided to return to school and earn a bachelor’s degree in teaching. Upon graduating, he shifted into a life of service by working with adults with developmental disabilities at Opportunity Resources. There, he helped adults with disabilities live their best lives. Eventually, Steve returned to school and earned his master’s degree in social work at the age of 60.
Those who knew Steve knew that he was one of the kindest people they would ever meet. He also enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid sportsman, and raised two children. His love of animals led to rescuing many lives, and they all greeted him at the Rainbow Bridge.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Dianna (Danks) Bowen, their two daughters and their families, Misty Bowen and Crystal (Bowen) Jones of Missoula; one sister, Marta Quest, Portland, OR; one brother, Newell Bowen Jr, Mexico, and two grandchildren, and a great-grandson.
The service will be held on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, at 1pm at Garden City Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately after.
