Obituary for Shirley Nane Sole

Shirley Nane Sole – May 29, 1929 – August 7, 2016

Shirley Nane Lorenzen was the first born daughter of Christian August Lorenzen and Mary Elizabeth Briggs. She was born in Altoona, PA on May 29, 1929. Her sister Marjorie came along nine years later.
The family moved to Denver, CO in 1944 after the war had made it difficult for her father to keep his meat business running. Shirley graduated from North High School in 1947 and was a member of ROTC. She triumphed over Bulbar Polio and scarlet fever during her school years.
She met Harlan Keith Sole during high school and they were married on December 17, 1950 in Denver where they continued to live while Harlan attended the University of Natural Healing Arts. She worked for the phone company until he was drafted and went into the army in 1951. They moved to Paso Robles California near the Ft. Ord army base where their daughter Linda was born in 1952. Harlan was stationed in Germany and Shirley returned to live with her parents in Denver until his homecoming in 1953. She and Harlan moved to unincorporated Adams County in 1955 after buying their first house with his VA loan. Their sons, Scott (b. 1958) and Jeffrey (b. 1965) were born while they lived there.
Shirley raised her children and was “mom” to her two nieces, made beautiful ceramics and other crafts, loved travelling, camping trips with Margie and Paul, golfing and all of the things moms do with their kids and grandkids and was active in the Colorado Chiropractic Association alongside her doctor husband.
Shirley and Harlan moved to Missoula, MT after he retired. He passed away in 2003. During their time together they welcomed three children, seven grandchildren and now eight great grandchildren who all survive her plus two nieces and their children. She is also survived by her sister Marjorie Wulff and her husband Paul.
She was surrounded in love as she passed and will be buried alongside Harlan in the Western Montana Veterans’ Cemetery in Missoula at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the St. Patrick House in Missoula.
