Shirley Nelson, 72, of Missoula passed away peacefully at St. Patrick's Hospital on January 12, 2016 with her husband of 53 years, M. Kent Nelson, at her side.
Shirley was born in 1943 in Tampa, Florida and grew up in Loveland, Colorado. She married her lifelong partner Kent in 1962 and they settled in Montana, spending time in Butte, Deer Lodge, Helena, and the last 20 years in Missoula. Shirley was a loyal fan of the University of Montana teams, especially the Lady Griz basketball team, and the Missoula Osprey. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Shirley's passions in life were sewing, the business she owned and operated, Tax USA, and her family. She led Tax USA as a family, always thinking first of her employees and clients. She is survived by her husband Kent, sons Don (Sandy) Nelson, Mark (Louise) Nelson and four grandchildren, Andrew, Thomas, Claire, and Jenna. Her wonderful grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life.
Shirley will be remembered for her intelligence, wit, thoughtfulness, and especially her profound kindness. A Memorial Service will be held on January 23rd at 5PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Missoula. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Kidney Fund.
Cremation is under the care of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.missoulafuneralhomes.com
