Shirley Joanne Conrow, 78, of Superior, MT passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at her home surrounded by loved ones.
She was born on December 9, 1946, in Newport, WA, to Leslie 'Bill' and Maxine Branning. She grew up as the middle child alongside her five siblings in North Idaho.
Shirley and her family moved to Superior in 1957, where she graduated from Superior High School in 1965. After high school she attended college at the University of Montana and after deciding college wasn't exciting enough for her, she moved to Virginia City where she worked at her sister and brother-in-law's store and where she met Clark Conrow.
The story is best told by Clark, but it goes something like Shirley and a 'friend' broke down and Clark drove by in his Chevy Super Sport as he yelled 'hey beautiful.' It wasn't initially received as well as he had hoped, and Shirley responded with an unfriendly gesture. Later that day he decided that she probably fell in love with his car and reluctantly agreed to a date - the rest is history.
On December 23, 1967, Shirley married Clark at the Methodist Church in Superior, MT. They lived in Alberton, MT for one year and then went on an adventure to live in Hawaii for two years. During their time in Hawaii, Shirley worked as a bank teller and between her and Clark they made lifelong friends on the island of Oahu.
After getting island fever they moved back to Superior where they would spend the next 53 years together. During those years they welcomed three wonderful daughters, Stacy, Megan, and Sydny. They spent their time camping, fishing, and enjoying their time with the teacher community and their children running rampant up and down 'Beer Can Alley.' Shirley loved following her children and husband around the state with sports and school activities and never missed an opportunity to show her family that she cared. As her children grew and gave her grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren she continued to follow everyone around in and out of gyms.
In her free time, she loved to adventure with anybody that would go, golf, solve a crossword puzzle, dance to any kind of music, shop, and cook for her family. She had the gift of gab and loved nothing more than a good visit.
Shirley was known for the open door policy at her home welcoming anyone and everyone, with the ability to give unconditional love to anyone that needed it without any strings attached. She was so intuitive, always knowing what you needed - a hug or a 'buck up and figure it out', her overt opinions were always followed by an I love you, she was famous for her kisses right on the lips, her kindness, and her gift to always be your number one fan.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Maxine Branning, brothers Ashley Branning, Noel Branning, and Jan Branning and brothers-in-law O'Dean Henderson, and Rex Lincoln.
Shirley is survived by her husband Clark Conrow, Superior; her daughters Stacy Conrow-Ververis (Angelo), Superior, Megan Conrow (Mike), Dillon, Sydny Cataldo (Jay), Fish Creek; her sisters Sharyn Lincoln, Haugan, and Penny Henderson, Superior; her grandchildren Alex Conrow (John), Superior, Nicholas Taryn Ververis (Brian), Missoula, Kaleb Ververis (Caitlin), Ennis, Joshua Harris (Becca), Newport, WA, Phineas Cataldo, Fish Creek, Bryan Mask, Dillon, Madison Mask, Missoula, and Kenzie Snider (Gabe), Ennis; her great grandchildren Brynly Conrow, Greyson Crawford, and Dylan Gallagher; along with numerous bonus children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and family that she loved all the same.
