Sharon Kay Adkins, 62, of Missoula died of pancreatic cancer on December, 30th 2012. She was born on June 15, 1950 in Iowa to Raymond and Lucille Prillwitz. She moved to Illinois then to Michigan where she lived with her 10 siblings and parents on a small farm until 1968. Sharon married Johnny Scott and they had a son, John Timothy Scott. After divorcing in 1971 she then moved to Arizona where she worked as a full charge print shop manager for 4 years. She married Gordon Pullins from Michigan in 1972. They lived in California, Washington, Oregon and Nebraska where their daughter Katlyn was born, finally settling in Montana. Sharon and her husband worked in print shops in Missoula until Gordon passed away in 1995 of Alzheimer's disease.
Sharon was later diagnosed with COPD. She and two friends created an on-line support/advocacy group called EFFORTS (Emphysema Foundation for Our Right To Survive) for people with lung related diseases. EFFORTS grew from 6 members to 3000 in just a few years. It can be found at emphysema.net. After being diagnosed with lung cancer in 2000, Sharon retired from EFFORTS.
In 1997 Sharon married Jim Adkins from Missoula. They spent their leisure time fishing or watching football. Sharon also enjoyed making quilts, reading and studying the Bible.
Preceding Sharon in death are her mother and father, both of Missoula, her first husband Johnny Scott, her second husband Gordon Pullins, her brother Daniel Prillwitz of Riverside, CA, her brother Thomas Prillwitz of Michigan, and her grandson Connor Scott of Great Falls, MT.
Sharon is survived by James Adkins, her son John (Angi) Scott of Illinois, daughter Katlyn (Brian Delger) Miller of Missoula, stepdaughter Jaclyn Adkins of Arizona, stepson Justin (Julia) Adkins of Idaho, sister Linda (Robert) Plick of Missoula, brother David (Marsha) Prillwitz, brother Timothy Prillwitz, sister Becky (Dino) Guckert, all of California, sister Pat (Joe) Amelang of Kansas, brother Mike Prillwitz of Washington, brother James Prillwitz and sister Katherine (Douglas) Reinertson both of Arizona, grandsons Carson and Cody Scott of Illinois, and Ryker and Kaden Adkins of Arizona, granddaughters Lexus and Winter Miller, and Sarah Delger, all of Missoula and Danyka Adkins of Idaho, and many
nieces and nephews.
Although she will be missed by all who knew her, she was anticipating being with the Lord, and is now at peace in her heavenly home.
A memorial service will be held at the Open Door Baptist Church, 135 Knowles St, Missoula on Saturday January, 5th at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Open Door Baptist Church, Partners Hospice, 2687 Palmer St., Ste B, Missoula, or to a charity of your choice.
