-Shanna Marie Frey, 51, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2014 following a tragic car accident.
Shanna was born on July 1, 1963, in Missoula to Barbara and Charles Frey. As a young girl she joined Missoula's swim team and swam competitively all through her grade and high school years. She attended Linfield College in McMinnville, OR, her freshman and sophomore years, and was always on the Dean's List. She came back to the University of Montana to finish her BS followed by a Master's Degree in Chemistry. She began her career teaching Organic Chemistry at Green River College in South Seattle, continued teaching at Pierce Community College in Tacoma, WA, and later taught Special Education at Chief Stealth in an inner-city Seattle High School. Shanna returned to her beloved mountains of Montana to care for her Aunt Patricia Cyr when Pat became disabled. Shanna found her true calling as a caregiver so when her college friend, Chris Rahm who has MS, needed someone to care for him, she went to California and brought him to her home in Montana.
From the time Shanna was 9 years old and Grandma Amy and Grandpa Phil Cyr bought the cabin on Flathead Lake, she loved being there. She brought all her many friends over the years to share in those special Flathead moments.
Survivors include her parents, Charles and Barbara Frey of Missoula, several aunts, uncles and cousins and her best friends, Chris Rahm, Michelle Hettick and Caryn Kahm, and Rascal, her rescue dog who went with her everywhere.
Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Shanna can be made to Life Saver Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 643, Polson, MT 59860, where she and Rascal found each other, or Animeals, 1700 Rankin St., Missoula, MT 59808
