Shane Sweeney lost his brief, courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016.
Shane was born on Dec. 10, 1962, in Billings. He began his life on a ranch at Bridger Creek near Reedpoint. Later his family moved to Shepherd and then the Billings area where he attended school. He spent his adolescent years cruising the streets of the southside and the "Point" with his dear friend, C.J. Lockwood.
In the early 1980s Shane lived in Jacksonville, Florida, and worked for Farren's Tree Service. Later he move to Vancouver, Washington, and worked in a plant nursery. He was quite a gardener and prided himself on his ability to nurture sick plants and grow the biggest best tomato plants. Shane also worked at the sugar beet factory and Country Pine Furniture in Billings. His main occupation though was in concrete. He worked for several companies in both Billings and Missoula.
Shane was a very kind and gentle man with a tender heart for animals. He was very talented with his hands. He could transform a few scraps of wood, nails and glue into beautiful bird houses complete with rock chimneys and out houses. Shane loved fishing, camping and spending time with his friends. His witty sense of humor brought smiles too many and his unexpected visits will be greatly missed.
Shane was preceded in death by his parents, Rosalie Sweeney and Al Sweeney and also two siblings, Jan Sweeney and Scott Sweeney.
He is survived by his sister, Jerri Shuey (Paul) of Missoula; his daughter, Corina Sweeney of Westminster, Colorado; his niece, Missy Matkin (Billy) and family of Victor, Idaho; his nephews, Josh Sweeney and family of Ashton, New York, Jeremy Sweeney (Jeannie) and family of Boyd, Jake Sweeney (Laurel) and family of Belfry; his grandmother, Sophie Smith of Billings.
The family will have a celebration of life for Shane at a later date.
