MISSOULA – Sallie Sheridan-Corette, 95, of Missoula, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at her home, The Springs in Missoula, of natural causes.
She was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Anaconda to Peter and Sarah Jane Murphy. One of seven children, her older brother, Jim, encouraged her to attend college at the University of Montana. She was an active member in Kappa Kappa Gamma. In 1941 she married Les Sheridan and moved to Butte where they raised five boys. She was prominent in civic affairs and a member of the Junior League and the St. James Hospital Auxiliary. They had a love for the Polson area and built the Immaculate Conception Church, which was dedicated to the Sheridan and Murphy families.
After Les Sheridan's untimely death in 1971, she married Jack Corette. Jack and Sallie enjoyed 23 years together until Jack's passing in 1994. Carroll College has dedicated a library in honor of Jack and Sallie Corette.
Sallie was fortunate to meet Lewis Moore a few years later. Lew and she continued playing golf, supporting the Grizzly teams, and enjoying life until his death in 2011. Sallie continued a thriving life at her home at The Springs with many wonderful friends.
Sallie was also preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Sarah Jane Murphy; four brothers, Jim, Peter, John and Robert; two sisters, Marie and Mary Rose; two sons, Daniel and David; and stepdaughter Diane Corette.
She is survived by three sons, James, William and Brian; two daughters-in-law, Paula (Chicago) and Paula (Missoula); five grandchildren, Paul, Chase, Philip, Danielle and Drew; four great-grandchildren, Connor, Kelly, Ethan and Harper; three step children, Shaun and William Corette, and Joan Corette- Hanley.
Sallie believed in education, and helped numerous students with scholarships for college. She lived for golf, was an avid bridge player and enjoyed tennis. Sallie was the ultimate hostess, and always ready for an invitation to any event. She served on the advisory board to the president at U of M, and was an active member of P.E.O Chapter A-I.
There will be a Catholic mass service at St. Francis Xavier Church on Monday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. Father Perry will be officiating. There will be a reception following the service at Reidy Hall. Burial will be at the Polson Cemetery later that day.
