On June 11, 2022, Sally Ray walked into the Clark Fork River and floated her way to Heaven. She ended her 30+ year battle with mental illness. Some might think she lost the battle, those of us that knew her well, know that she actually won.
Sally was born in Wichita, Kansas on December 10, 1958 to William and Patricia Ray. She was the third of their four children. After moving around the Midwest, the family settled in Missoula when Sally was in 7th grade. She attended Russell Elementary, Sentinel High School, and the University of Montana where she earned a degree in Communications. Sally’s career revolved around retail. She spread her talent among various companies including Hart Albin, The Bon Marche, and Target. When mental illness tightened its grip on her and she was no longer able to work, she spent time volunteering.
Sally was greeted in Heaven by her parents, Bill and Pat Ray, her brothers Mike and Mark Ray, 2 dogs Bailey and Beau, and many other relatives. She is survived by her sister, Susan Ray, her nephews Sean and Ian Ray, and countless people who were touched by her kindness and compassion.
We would like to thank the staff at St. Patrick Hospital Neurobehavioral Unit for the years of care they offered Sally. She loved everyone there and was so appreciative of the help they gave her.
Found on a plaque in Sally’s apartment, “If there were no farewells, there would be no reunions.”
