Ruth E. Dye died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at age 97.
She was born on June 2, 1917, one of the "first twins in Cut Bank" as she liked to say. Her parents were Frank E. VanDemark and Eva Salisbury VanDemark. Her twin brother, Norris, died in a car accident in 1965.
She was raised in Cut Bank and attended the University of Montana. In 1941 she married Harold B. Dye. While the couple divorced in 1966 they remained amiable until Harold's death in 2004.
Ruth had two children, Harold Van Dye and Leslie Ruth Hart. Leslie died of Crohn's disease in 1987.
She is survived by her son, Van (Nancy); four grandchildren, Elizabeth Dye (Tom Lohof), Heather Lansky (Bill), Travis Dye (Megan Ashton) and John Dye and four great-grandchildren, Winnie Lohof, Hannah Lansky, Jack Lansky and Ciaran Ashton-Dye.
Ruth was a gentle soul, without a mean bone in her body. She was friends to many at Clark Fork Riverside and Hunter's Glen. Even in her last days she made a serious impression on the staff at St. Pat's 4 North with her loving and positive personality.
A private, family memorial will be held this summer.
