Ruby Fredericks, 84, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2018 in Missoula, MT. She was the youngest daughter of Julia & Ed Tanner, born March 17, 1934 in Bismarck, ND. Shortly after Ruby’s birth, the family relocated to Missoula, MT where she and her seven siblings were raised.
Ruby married Eugene “Bud” Fredericks on April 2, 1954 and together they raised three children Pam, Patty, and Gary. The family lived in Kalispell, MT before purchasing a farm in Stevensville, MT where they raised hogs and chickens. In 1962, they sold the farm and moved to Missoula, MT.
Ruby spent the majority of her life working at home looking after the family and tending to her yard and garden. She loved growing sweet peas, was notorious for making a perfect pie crust, and dependably logged the weather and visitors in her daily journal. Ruby and Bud’s house was a gathering place for friends and family alike where the coffee was always hot and everyone was invited to stay for a meal. Later in life she worked as a housekeeper, a job she loved where she met many friends she cherished.
Ruby was blessed throughout her life to be loved by a large extended family and many wonderful friends. She is survived by her son Gary (Suzie) Fredericks of Missoula, MT; daughter, Pam (George) VanLuchene of Yuma, AZ; grandchildren, Chris, Shannon, Jessica, Jeremy, and Brad as well as six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; her husband, Bud, and her daughter, Patty Frady.
There will be a graveside service on Saturday, March 31st at 11:00am at Missoula City Cemetery. A celebration of her life will immediately follow at Garden City Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Hospice of Missoula for taking such good care of Ruby and loving her as much as we all do.
