Obituary for Roy "Butch" Neville

Butch Neville, 74, of Superior, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born June 18, 1941, in Missoula to Erwin and Virginia Neville. Butch attended Superior Elementary School and high school at Basic High School in Henderson, Nevada. After high school, he missed Montana and moved back to Superior. He married Janet Trudeau of Superior on June 17, 1966.

Butch and Janet enjoyed a passion for horses and that lasted through the years. Butch loved the sport of O-Mok-See (games on horseback) and competed for 40 years, winning numerous awards and belt buckles. His best moment was setting a national record in the tomahawk, which is still unbroken today. This sport was also enjoyed by his wife Janet, their children and grandchildren; there were three generations riding and camping in the summers. Butch enjoyed trail riding, moving cows, team sorting, hunting, fishing, whitewater rafting and playing hockey into his 70s with the grandkids; he loved roller coasters and dancing.

Butch worked as a saw filer at the local lumber mills until retirement. An expert in his field, he was often called upon after retirement to do consulting and help when needed. He also shod horses on the side in Superior and the surrounding area during his younger years.

His greatest joy was his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He cared deeply for all of his family. He is survived by his wife, Janet of Superior; daughter, Sheila (Matt) Jacobson and her children Allison and Riley of Florence; son, Jeff (Tresa) Neville and children Allen, Kaeloni (Josh) and Madison of Missoula; two great-grandchildren, Kamden and Dustyn (KaeLoni); sister Faye (Phil); sister Franky (Bob); brother Glen (Elizabeth); father-in-law Ed Trudeau; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who will remember "Uncle Butchy."

There will be a celebration of Butch's fantastic life on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. at the Historic Old School on River Street in Superior. Bring a potluck dish and your favorite memory of Butch to share.
