Roy William Holmstrom, 64, of Missoula, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, Jan. 24, 2014, in the comfort of his own home.
He was born on April 3, 1950, in Dearborn, MI to Roy C. and Dora Holmstrom. After graduating from Western Michigan University with a degree in Behavioral Psychology, Roy ventured west and moved to Montana, beginning his life-long career in disability services. A few years after settling in Montana, he met a fellow alumnus turned Montanan, Sue Otting, to whom he married on Aug. 7, 1982.
Roy fully embraced the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, reloading, camping, hiking, and skiing. He was an avid Montana Grizzlies football fan and enjoyed watching motor sports, listening to country music and political talk radio, eating authentic German cuisine, and driving with his dog Cyrus. As a proud and supportive father, Roy took great care to ensure that his two children were able to pursuit and achieve their dreams of being a NICU nurse (daughter) and a Ph.D. biochemist (son).
Roy was preceded in death by his Father and best friend, Roy C. Survivors include his mother, Dora (Naples, FL); wife, Sue (Missoula, MT); Sisters, Joan (St. Clair, MI) and Carol (Arlington, TX); son and daughter-in-law, Erik and Jen (Zürich, Switzerland); and daughter Lindsay (Raleigh, NC).
A memorial reception in his honor will be held on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015 at Missoula Garden City Funeral Home from 10:30am-12:30pm.
