Roy Eugene Baker Jr., son of Roy and Marjorie (Bogue) Baker, was born June 20, 1944, in Sheridan, Montana. He spent his early childhood at the Valley of the Moon Ranch in Rock Creek where he learned the value of hard work. He attended Clinton Elementary School graduating eighth grade in 1958. The family then moved to Seeley Lake later that summer. He attended Missoula County High School by riding the school bus everyday from Seeley Lake to Missoula graduating in 1962. He continued his education at the University of Montana earning a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics in 1966. He spent all four summers in college working for the Forest Service stationed on fire lookouts in the Bob Marshall Wilderness to pay for his education. After college he went on to teach high school math for four years in Missoula, Libby, and St. Ignatius. He was married to Karen Cole in 1968 and they had three children together; Dawn, Dean and Danny. The couple later separated but he stayed close to his children. He left the teaching profession and spent the remainder of his career as an accountant working for local trucking companies and other businesses. He enjoyed attending church celebrating his love for Jesus.
Roy also enjoyed the outdoors riding four-wheelers in the woods. He loved to take his family and friends out to eat, where he always had a new story to tell. He never missed a new Star Wars movie; this became a family tradition that he shared with his children and grandchildren. Roy made friends wherever he went, especially on his evening walk on the trail where he would share his love and sense of humor with people. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Dawn Edwards; Dean Baker; Daniel (Nicole) Baker; grandchildren; Kala (Phil) Bartzer; Devin (Amber) Baker; Destiny Baker; Derek Baker; Tristan Baker; Kyren Baker; great grandchildren, Hadley Baker; Vonn Baker all of Missoula; brothers, Howard (Geri) Baker of Deer Park WA; Kenneth Baker of Colville WA; Gordon (Sheila) Baker of Chewelah WA; sister, Sharon (Steve) Cabrin of Wolf Creek MT; good friend, Frank Baker of Missoula and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
