Obituary for Rosemary Hosie Tackes

Rosemary (Hosie) Tackes passed away Monday, March 24, 2014, after a short bout with cancer. She is survived by her beloved husband, James Tackes of Stevensville; their daughter, Lori Ann Gavin (Vince) of Missoula; and by her only living sibling from her family of seven, Gordon J. Phillips of Denver, Colo.

Previously deceased siblings include Donald Sherman Phillips (1928-1948), Joan Anne Clements (1930-2009), David Thomas Phillips (1933-1999), Stanley Graver Phillips (1936-2006), Bernice Anne Schryver (1938-1993). On Jim's side, Rosemary is survived by Jim's sisters Helen (John) Paulson and Marcella Tackes and Clara (Joseph) Perrier, while being preceded in death by Michael (Vernette) Tackes, Joseph (Shirley) Tackes, Louis and Elaine Tackes, and Clarence (Kern) and Mary Lou Tackes and brother Jerry (Pat) Tackes, Hilton Head, S.C.

They are both large families, so there are far too numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins and communities to mention.

Rosemary grew up in Colorado where she attended grade school, high school and some higher education courses at Southern Colorado State Collage. After leaving Colorado, she lived in various areas of the country and overseas with her first husband, Les Tuell. In 1988 after returning from Bonn, West Germany, Rosemary divorced and moved to California where she worked for nearly 20 years.

In 2000, Jim Tackes and Rosemary were married at Christ the King Parish in Missoula, and three years later retired to Montana where they built a home and resided until her death.

During the past few years, Rosemary has become increasingly involved in her faith community, and along with a group of faithful friends began a group called Concerned Catholics of Montana, calling forward those who are interested in promoting change and greater community in our church. The group initiated a website: concernedcatholicsmt.org that is still active and ongoing today.

Through her association with Jim, her husband who was already an associate, in 2004, Rosemary had the honor of becoming an associate member of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This was following in line with Jim's deceased wife Pat, who as a former BVM had also been an associate. Rosemary asks that in lieu of flowers all possible donations be made to the BVM Retirement Fund, Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Office of Development, P.O. Box 858, 1100 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, IA 52004-0858.

Services will be held at Christ the King Church, 1400 Gerald Ave., on Friday, March 28. Vigil at 10:30 a.m., liturgy at 11 a.m. with luncheon following
