Obituary for Ronald George Thompson

MISSOULAâ,**– Ronald George Thompson, 63, of Missoula, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, doing one of the things he enjoyed most, remodeling his sister's house.

Ron was born Dec. 16, 1949, in St. lgnatius to Clifford and Vivian Thompson, the third child in a family of eight children. He resided in Montana, Washington and North Dakota, and was currently living in Missoula.

Ron attended school in Bottineau, N.D., then entered the Army in 1969 and was stationed in Germany. He received a National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter M-14 and Expert M-16. After his honorable discharge in May 1971, he resided in New Jersey. He became a master fenceman and all-around handyman. He had that special talent for figuring out things out no matter what.

Ron was a very quiet person, but had a very watchful eye and a heart of gold. He was always there to help – be it family, friend or a stranger in need – never asking for anything in return. He had a special gift with children and always found time for them. He was quite the guy.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and oldest brother, Bobby. He is survived by his siblings, Marcia (Bob) Doxey of Missoula, Wanda (Carter) Hedlund of Roseau, Minn., Cindy Brown of Missoula, Don (Laurie) Thompson of Bottineau, Dean (Marie) Thompson of Dunseith, N.D., and Ellen Thompson of Henderson, Nev.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and his best friend and faithful yellow Lab, Sam. He was to become a great-great-uncle twice over in May; he always said he was already a great uncle and he really was.

A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Frenchtown Christian Center, 16600 Beckwith St. Cremation has taken place and burial will be held at a later date at Ronan Cemetery.
