"L'audace, l'audace, toujours l'audace!"
Born on February 12th, 1958 in Honolulu, Hawaii, Roger left us for Valhalla on August 25th, 2015 after a hard fought battle with leukemia. He was preceded in death by his father, James Uhe, and loyal rescued companions Tess (who was also the trusted ring bearer when he married Joni Jo Hart), Max, Tonka, Rocky, Bailey, and Winston. Roger is survived by the love of his life Joni Jo Uhe and their "fur-kids" Cinna and Miko; his mother, Silvia Hollingsworth of Tampa, Florida; his sister Laura and brother-in-law Mike of Raleigh, North Carolina; his niece Rebecca; his nephew Alex; as well as friends and comrades too numerous to mention.
Roger graduated with a near 4.0 and a BA in History from the University of Wyoming in 1982, where he managed to avoid meeting his future wife, and the love of his life Joni, by spending just as much time in dive bars near campus as he did in class. Although he missed her when they were at UW together, Roger eventually won Joni over when they met in Seattle, Washington with a lot of charm and a little bit of stalking. They were married in 1996 and have been on countless adventures since: honeymooning in Egypt, playing 007 at a casino in Baden-Baden, Germany, dancing without any music in Tombstone, Arizona, fostering his cowboy alter ego riding and wrangling horses in the Crazy Mountains, exploring the dark alleys of Istanbul, and most recently reliving history along the East Coast while in search of the perfect Irish coffee and lobster roll. In their all too short 20 years together Joni and Roger lived a life many never dare to live.
As a Major in the US Army, Roger saved countless lives in two deployments to the Middle East, protecting and bringing home every Road Runners and Rough Rider under his command. He was a decorated veteran, awarded with the following honors: Global War on Terror Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal with 2 campaign stars; a Bronze Star; and a National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star. Although Roger excelled at, and enjoyed many diverse pursuits in his life, excluding theatre, he was most proud of having served his country, and is quite sorry that he will be unable to vote in the upcoming election.
Since retiring from the Army, Roger has been involved with the Harley Owners Group (HOG) serving as an officer, as well as a member of the Western Montana Military Officers Association. His fellows and collogues in these organizations are so very grateful for Roger's military efficiency and outstanding, never-ending, slightly macabre, but always brilliant, sense of humor.
Roger touched countless lives, both human and non-human, and made family and friends everywhere where he went. His loss is great, but his life was greater and his family asks you to join them in celebrating his wonderful life on September 12th in St. Ignatius, Montana—contact the family for details. In lieu of flowers donations to AniMeals in his name are welcomed. Please visit www.missoulafuneralhomes.com to sign his online guestbook.
