Missoula-Robert Wilton Williams, 87, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Community Medical
Center, surrounded by his family. I
Bob was born on February 18, 1926 in Meaderville, MT to Joe and Eileen (Murphy) Williams, the second
of three sons. He was educated at Holy Savior and Butte High School. He was scholastically gifted and
graduated high school at 16. He joined the Navy in 1944 and served as an aviation radioman in the
Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to Montana to continue his education.
He attended Montana State in Bozeman but had to stop college briefly to help support his family by
working in the Butte underground mines. He later returned to university life, this time in Missoula,
where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in 1950.1 Degree in hand he
returned to Butte and began his thirty-five year career with the Anaconda Company, advancing from
I
auditor to human resource manager. He and his family lived at Anaconda's mining sites in Butte, Grants,
N.M., Yerington, NV., Denver, CO., Tooele, UT. then back to Butte where he retired from service after
the closing of the Berkeley Pit.
On June 20, 1953, he married Winifred Lee Connolly at 51. Patrick's church in Butte. They were married
for forty-five years and had eight children together. Win predeceased him in 1968.

"Sweet Old Bob" was a devoted, loving, and much-loved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and
friend. We shall miss his sharp wit, his concern, his compassion, and his uncanny ability at Jeopardy ...
even up until the very end. I
In addition to his wife, Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Joe & Eileen Williams, his older
brother, Joe, and beloved cousins. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Eileen (Jim)
McElligott, Bob Williams, Greg (Marlene) Williams, Cathy (Nick) Carter, Mary Williams, Ed (Pam)
Williams, Julie Nelson, and Dan Williams, brother Jim (Mary Jo) Williams, as well as eight grandchildren,
Tiffany, Miranda, Colin, Taylor, Casey, Derek, Linda, and Taylor Leeann, all of whom he adored. He is
also survived by numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family requests no flowers. Memorials are suggested to Hilda's Room, the Hospice facility at
Community Medical Center. A private family service will take place at a later date. Garden City Funeral Home
has charge of assisting the family with arrangements for Bob's journey home.
