Robert Alvin "Firestone Bob" Wheeler, from Sidney and a resident of Missoula since 1968, passed away at home after a long battle with liver cancer Saturday, March 22, 2014. Bob was born to Ed and Sis Wheeler on July 27, 1950, and married to Janet (Neff) in April 1975.
He is survived by wife, Janet; children, Erin, Kelly, Rob and Kevin; sisters, Annabelle Heiser of Helena and Patty Sundheim of Fairview; and brothers, Gale (Scot) of Helena and Larry of Phoenix.
He was preceded in death by mother, Sis (Simard); father, Ed; and brother, Neil.
Uncle Bob worked at the Firestone store in Missoula for 40 years and although he may not have known every customer by name, he knew what tires were on their car the moment he saw their face. He enjoyed hunting with old friends Ham, Stan, Bent and Nana. He also enjoyed creating mayhem with his little brothers and making his own guns with his brother Gale. He was a golden-haired little angel to his big sisters. He loved fishing with daughter Kelly, watching sports with daughter "Lil Bob" Erin in the North End Zone, listening to son Rob play guitar and watching son Kevin play hockey. He loved working the penalty box for the Maulers and recently rediscovered his old hobby of makin' bacon, sausage and jerky. Kelly "enjoyed" helping him fill the sausage casings. Bob was a friend to all and will be missed by all who knew him.
In accordance with Bob's wishes, no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Community Cancer Care Center directed to use for greatest need (communitymed.org/index.php/donation).
