Robert Ryan Saurer, 67, of Missoula, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014, at the home of friends, of natural causes.
He was born on May 15, 1946, in Missoula to Theodore "Ted" and Mildred Saurer. He graduated from Granite High School in 1964. He served in the 1st Air Calvary in Vietnam, was honorably discharged in 1968, and in the reserves until 1973.
On May 15, 1971, he married Kathleen Garoutte. Together they built Saurer's Pump Service and ran it for over 38 years. Bob officially retired and sold his business in March so that Saurer's Pump Service will live on. Bob enjoyed four-wheeling on Sundays with Kathy and their friends from Drummond and Missoula. He was also a very avid Griz fan. Bob also enjoyed breakfast with the boys at the bowling alley and making his rounds around town. Bob enjoyed bowling, hunting and snowmobiling.
He was a member of the Elks Hellgate Lodge 383 where he became Exalted Ruler, the American Legion and the VFW, and the Montana Ground Water Association. He was the past president/founder of the Western Montana Trail Riders Association.
He is preceded in death by his wife Kathy in May 2011; his parents Ted and Mildred Saurer; mother and father-in-law Bob and Bernice Garoutte; brother in-law Gene Feback, and nephew little John.
He is survived by his sister Marjorie Feback of Fort Shaw; niece Shannon Feback of Missoula; nephew Shawn Feback of Fort Shaw; aunt Pat Hamilton of Missoula; uncle Tony Wickberg, of Philipsburg; aunt Catherine Everhard of Wise River; stepmother June Saurer of Philipsburg and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Special friends Carrie and Dick Hoehne of Philipsburg, Dave and Jennifer Hurley of Missoula and many, many more close friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 16, from noon to 1 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home with the service following at 1 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Missoula Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Western Montana Trail Riders Association, P.O. Box 17632, Missoula, MT 59808 or a donor for your choice.
