Obituary for Robert Scott Spring

Robert “Scott” Spring — husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend — went home to be with God, his parents, and friends and family that passed before him on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, at his home in Missoula. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family, following a long battle with COPD.

Scott was born in Lewistown on March 5, 1951, to Robert "Bob" and Elizabeth “Betty” Spring where he spent the duration of his childhood, graduating from Fergus County High School in 1969. As the lone son, Scott was the apple of his parents’ eye and an amazing brother to his sisters. He followed in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps becoming a third generation locomotive engineer originally with the Milwaukee Railroad and eventually with Montana Rail Link from where he retired in 2012.

He found a lifetime of love with his devoted wife, Jody, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage and five children. He would describe being a father to his children as his greatest accomplishment and would rarely pass up an opportunity to talk about them.

Mostly known as a reserved and warm-hearted man, Scott will forever be remembered for his generosity and constant punch lines, as well as, his goal of having the best-decorated house during the Christmas season and the best-looking grass on the street during the summer.

Scott is survived by his wife Jody, daughters Amber Spring (Russ Stinnett), Havre; and Krystal (Steve Steinmetz), Havre; sons Casey (Xiomara) Lake Worth, Florida; Derrek (Carrie) Havre; and Darrin (Meghann), Helena; grandchildren Sydney, Camryn, Moriah, Sam, Cora, and Jaxon, sisters Suzanne, Dianne and Jan and a number of nieces/nephews.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2:30 p.m. at the Bella Vista Pavilion in Fort Missoula Regional Park, with Father Jim Hogan presiding.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested a donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or your local hospice.
