Robert Johnston

Robert Johnston, 84, of Missoula passed away Friday, November 1, 2024 at St. Patrick Hospital. A Celebration of Life service will be announced soon. Online condolences may be left at gardencityfh.com.

Robert Thomas Johnston, son of Ellsworth and Majorie (Mattson) Johnston, was born September 2, 1940 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Robert was united in marriage with Veronica Johnston. He lived in Minneapolis for 43 years and raised two sons, Robert Jr., and Mike. Bob was later separated from Veronica in 1982. He married Cinda Johnston in 1982 and moved to Montana in 1983. He raised three children: Chad, Magen, and Travis. 

Robert worked as a mechanic for Stephens Buick in Minneapolis for 20 years, after the move to Montana he worked for Four Seasons Buick for 15 years in Missoula. Later in life after retiring from the shop he took a job as a custodian at Frenchtown and loved the job working there for 10 years. He built a home in 9 Mile Valley and lived there 26 years before moving to Frenchtown in his retirement. Robert enjoyed bird and large game hunting in his free time. He also enjoyed summers on Pelican Lake and ice fishing in the winter. Most of all, Robert cherished the time he was able to spend with his family and friends. He was a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Robert (Suzanne) Johnston; Michael (Michelle) Johnston; Magen (Brad) Johnston; Travis Johnston; Chad Johnston; wife, Cinda Johnston; eight grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Ellsworth and Majorie; brother, Sonny Johnston; sister, Phyllis Bartlett; ex-wife, Veronica Johnston.
