Robert "Bob" L. Hunter, 72, lover of life, went to his maker on the morning of Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015. Bob resisted gallantly, for decades, the call to come home and finally passed from natural causes at home surrounded by his family and friends.
Born Dec. 4, 1942, in Hamilton, to Lee Hunter and Alice (Chaffin) Hunter, Bob enjoyed life to its fullest and worked hard to get the most out of every moment especially with family and friends.
Bob was a veteran and served during the Vietnam era and was stationed in Korea and Okinawa, Japan. In September of 1967, he married his one and only, the beautiful Marjean "Midge" Flachsenhar in Missoula. Later in life he was able to complete his education at the University of Montana College of Technology where he graduated with honors.
Bob spent 18 years working for the Missoula Job Service and also worked as a truck driver for many years before and after. Work, although a necessity, for Bob was secondary to the needs of family and friends. Bob would often say "I work to live, I do not live to work."
Bob enjoyed life and believed in making a difference. He was a member of the American Legion No. 27, was a part of the Missoula Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee, and loved his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and all of his Studebaker cars and trucks that he has owned over the years. He was a member of the Shifters Car Club and also the Studebakers Driver Club.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Bill; nephew Rick and his in-laws Bob and Pat Flachsenhar.
Survivors include his wife Midge; daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and Bruce Giffin; granddaughters, Alyssa and Lynnae Giffin; son and daughter-in-law Todd and Julie Grebe; sister Peggy Hatfield; brother-in-law Robert "Flax" Flachsenhar; sister-in-law and husband Linda and Richard Guenther; sister-in-law and husband Patty and Donnie Laughlin and countless very special and dear nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial "Shindig" is planned for sometime in June. A formal notice will be placed in the Missoulian announcing the time and place. Please also feel free to contact the family.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Hospice of Missoula, 800 Kensington Ave., Missoula, MT 59801.
