– Robert Alan "Bob" Hopkins, 67, of Missoula, suffered a stroke and passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, with family at his side. He was born Jan. 16, 1949, in Seattle to Stuart and Eleanore Hopkins.
He attended Western Washington State College, and joined the Air Force in 1973, and over the next 20 years was stationed around the world, earning the rank of master sergeant before retiring in 1993.
He married Kathy-Lane "Kate" Jessop in 1980 and became stepfather to Kendall Judd. Their family soon grew with the adoptions of son William Frederick and daughter Emily Dawn.
Bob moved to Missoula in 2011, becoming active in numerous local organizations as a passionate advocate for wild places and his Montana community.
These years were his happiest; he was well-loved and respected for his level of commitment to his volunteer work. His sense of humor, thoughtfulness and cheerful demeanor earned him many friends of all ages.
Bob is survived by his children, Kendall, Will (Shanna) and Emily; siblings, Ed (Kathy) Hopkins, Christine Hopkins and Kate (Jim) Schuman; cousin, Michael (Sally) Gillie; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
At Bob's request, there will no formal service. Informal gatherings are being discussed, and details will be posted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Montana Wilderness Association, the Sierra Club or the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
