Obituary for Robert Joseph Hiniker

– Robert Joseph Hiniker passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at home in Missoula. He was born July 8, 1933, in Waterville, Minn., to Leo and Rachel (McMahan) Hiniker. He graduated from St. Peter High School in St. Peter, Minn. On May 2, 1953, he married Beverly Glaser.

He served in the U.S. Army for three years with a tour of duty in France. He was engaged in farming, also learning drywall and other aspects of the building construction trade. The family lived in Kasota and St. Peter, Minn., and Rapid City, S.D., settling in 1972 in Missoula, where he resumed working in building construction, having also built homes in and around the area.

Upon retirement, he and his wife Beverly increased their vegetable gardening, selling produce and meeting many wonderful friends. (He was especially noted for his great sweet corn.)

He was happiest working the land, hunting or fishing, and being with his family. His favorite saying, in good or bad times, was, "It is what it is."

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; sons, David (Kristi) and Charles (Joely) of Missoula, Lee (Lori) of Dillon and Paul (Cynthia) of Whitehall; daughters, Heidi (Jay) Mills and Jane (Hunt) Hiniker-Searls of Washington; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Bette Swain of California, Margaret Grahn, Alice Sacco and Janet (Curt) Eichers; and brother, Ben (June) Hiniker of Minnesota.

A memorial service will be held later
