Obituary for Robert Bruce Dundas

Robert Bruce Dundas, 75, passed away May 14, 2013 at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula following a lengthy struggle with cancer.
Bruce, as he was known, along with his twin sister Luella, was born January 15, 1938 in Anaconda, Montana to Luella M. (Roney) and Homar H. Dundas. The family moved to Missoula when Bruce was in grade school. He graduated from Missoula County High School in 1956.
After trying his hand at college, including a brief period at the Montana School of Mines in Butte, Bruce entered the highway construction business working for Bud King. Then from October 1961 to February 1966, Bruce served in the United States Navy based out of San Diego, California. He was a gun fire control technician (FTG3) for a 5" gun battery aboard the USS Taussig (DD-746) operating in the Pacific. During his time in the Navy, Bruce married Marilyn R. Moderie on February 1, 1964. Following his discharge from military service, Bruce and Marilyn returned to Missoula. He spent the remainder of the 1960s and 1970s working as a surveyor for the City of Missoula. Bruce then changed professions, working the next 25 years in the mining industry. He continued working as a surveyor for a time, first at a molybdenum mine in Challis, Idaho, followed by open-pit gold mines in California, Colorado and Nevada. In the late 1980s, Bruce began working as an ore truck driver in Nevada, lastly at the Twin Creeks Mine for Newmont Mining Corporation.
He retired from Newmont in 2005 and returned to Missoula. In retirement Bruce enjoyed watching baseball, being a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, and playing cards and Yahtzee.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn of Missoula, sons Robert (Clovis, California) and Ryan (San Jose, California), sister Luella (Great Falls), and cousins Charles Baker (Missoula), Jack Dundas and Jesse Dundas (Thorold, Ontario, Canada). No services are planned at this time.
