Retired history professor Dr. Robert R. Dozier passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, after a brief illness. He spent his last week surrounded by loved ones, including many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his beloved wife, Joycee Dozier.
Bob, a proud Cajun, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on April 7, 1932. As a young man, he enlisted in the Air Force and was especially proud of his service to his country during the Korean conflict.
Bob and Joycee moved to Missoula in 1967 with their four children when he joined the faculty at the University of Montana. Over the years, he was deeply involved in teaching and scholarship, especially the history of World War II. Later in life, he turned to writing fiction and published three novels.
His family remembers him as an avid fly fisherman, a movie buff, a voracious reader, and a devoted father who coached Little League and passed on a love of the outdoors to his family. He is remembered as a man of great integrity who taught thousands of students at the University of Montana and mentored many young people over the years. The world is a better place for his having been here.
He is survived by Joycee Dozier, his wife of 61 years; his children, Ronald (Anita), Richard, Robert (Billie), Lorraine (Shelly); 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Service and burial will be Friday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery, 1911 Tower St., Missoula. Please join family and friends in remembering and honoring Bob's life. Flowers can be sent to Cremation and Burial Society of the Rockies, 2510 Spurgin Road No. B, Missoula, MT 59804.
