Robert L. Ayre, age 78, of Missoula, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on April 28, 1942, in Glendive, Montana, the eldest of 11 children, to Robert August and Dorothy Mae Gagermeier Ayre.
He served during the Vietnam Conflict in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and was a volunteer firefighter for the East Missoula Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Linda Ayre of Missoula; two daughters, Paula N. Zeiler of Lolo and Brenda M. Ayre of The Woodlands, Texas; five grandchildren, Brooke Zeiler, Luke (Brenna) Zeiler, Katey Venn, Emily Venn, and Lilly Venn; and two great-grandchildren, Braxton Fink and Brayden Zeiler.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, March 5, 2021, at the Western Montana State Veterans’ Cemetery with Father Craig Hightower officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home.
Honorary Pallbearers are Luke Zeiler, Mike Ayre, David Ayre, Dave Wolf, Braxton Fink, and Brayden Zeiler.
