Robert Emory Arras, 83, of Missoula, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2015, at St. Patrick's Hospital of natural causes.
Robert was born on April 1, 1932, in Fort Worth, Texas, to A.A. "Buddy" and Vera Arras, Sr. Robert moved to Cut Bank, Montana in 1935, where he attended Elementary and High School. Robert entered the Air Force in 1951 and served 4 years, including 2 years 8 months overseas. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Robert received a B.S. degree from the University of Montana in 1959. Robert and his brother managed Arras Tank Company in Cut Bank until 1971.
On September 27, 1959, Robert married Virginia Fisher in Missoula. The couple lived in Cut Bank after their marriage and returned to Missoula in 1971 so that he could attend graduate school at the University of Montana. He was the first combined Missoula County Clerk, Recorder and Treasurer, and he had his own accounting business, Rapid Bookkeeping Service, until his death.
He was a life member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Cut Bank Elks Lodge #1632. He was a member of the Friends of the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula. He was the Worshipful Master of the Missoula Masonic Lodge #13, 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite. He was the past President of the Montana State Golf Association, member of the five man Pacific Coast Amateur Golf team, was on the Board of Directors of the Pacific Coast Amateur Golf, member of the University of Montana Silent Sentinel, University of Montana Golf Team, and member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He loved golfing, bowling, hunting, visiting his grandchildren, and cooking his famous Bob's mashed potatoes. His favorite golf trip was playing the Cypress Point Golf Course in Pebble Beach, CA. He won many local golf amateur and senior tournaments. He won his first golf tournament at the age of 10.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife Virginia Fisher Arras of Missoula; two daughters and their families, Nikki and her husband Jamie Schielke, granddaughter Siene Allen, and Julie and her husband Darren Dassinger, granddaughters Echo and Rakel, one sister, Maryann Porter, and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be at 1:00 pm, Friday, July 17, at Garden City Funeral Home, 1705 West Broadway, Missoula, MT 59808. Services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, July 17, at the Missoula Veteran's Cemetery, 1911 Tower Street, Missoula, MT 59804. Reception to follow at 2:45 pm at Grizzly Peak, 3600 American Way, Missoula, MT 59808.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother A.A. "Buddy" Arras, Jr., two sisters, Una Mae Davis and Helen Jane Ceynar, and by his mother and father-in-law James W. and Esther Fisher.
