MISSOULA – Richard D. "Rich" Stiff, 82, of Missoula, passed away at St. Patrick Hospital on Sunday, June 9, 2013. He was born March 21, 1931, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Rose and Orlin Stiff.
Rich married JoAnn M. Bailey on June 22, 1952. Rich worked in a paper mill in Eau Claire, Wis., for 40 years. While in Wisconsin, he enjoyed both hunting and fishing and was a member of the local Rod and Gun Club.
When he retired, he and his wife, JoAnn, moved to Alberton in 1993 "to live by a stream and in the mountains." For the past year and a half, they have made Grizzly Peak in Missoula their home.
He is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shannon Rose; and a sister, Arloa. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn of Missoula; five children, Steven (Linnea) Stiff of Missoula, Richard (Dianne) Stiff of Billings, Brian (Patricia) Stiff of Billings, Christine Wucherpfennig of Eau Claire and Melanie Stiff of Cuba, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one on the way; and a sister, Geraldine Hoople of Wisconsin.
A memorial service will be held at Grizzly Peak at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.
